On Saturday afternoon, we received a call from a police officer, informing us that a dog needed our help. The police officers informed us that they would be taking the grandma to an old folks home as there would be no one to care for her as her grand daughter, whom she was living with, was being taken into police custody. Grand daughter is also the main caregiver for the dog.

We had been alerted to their case in November 2025 and back then had helped both dogs but the dog’s caregiver had resisted surrendering the chihuahua to us and so we only had the poodle, who was later renamed Riley. Riley was fortunate to be taken by us back then and has since found his happy, loving, forever home.

Our volunteers had to scramble down to pick up the chihuahua who had been left alone for some hours with no access to food or water. When we got to the apartment, we found the little dog locked in a room, poo on the floor and bed sheets stained with pee and poo. Perhaps someone had kept him in the room as they didn’t want him to slip out. He barked when he heard us call his name from outside.

We managed to put DomDom in a carrier and took him to the vet immediately.
Vet findings :
• Dehydrated
• Penis bleeding – he was wearing a very heavy and dirty male wrap.
• Overgrown nails

Although it may not seem like he has serious health issues, it is a concern that he was not given appropriate care and moving forward, his future is uncertain.

DomDom is presently boarded at the vet as he has nowhere to go as we don’t have a foster on hand. He requires a family with no other pets and although he is sweet and loves belly rubs, he may sometimes snap at the air if he is scared. He is also capable of jumping really high, so you need to have window grills or closed windows.
DomDom has been through a lot and really just needs time to decompress and understand what has happened to him and why his family members have all been taken away from him suddenly.
