Kembangan-Chai Chee Pets' Carnival 2012

Come meet us and and some of our beloved rescued dogs Gorgeous, Emma, Gabriel, and Ashley at the Kembangan-Chai Chee Pets' Carnival this Sunday. We'll be there to talk to anyone who wants to know more about our work and our dogs, and we would love to meet all our dear friends and supporters who have stood by us, believing in the work we do.

The organizers have informed us that there will be no sale of merchandise at this event, thus this event will be purely an adoption drive as well as to share our work with the public.

There is also a carnival with games and snack stalls to entertain the kids while animal welfare organizations and various government agencies involved in pet issues will be present to answer your concerns and questions about pet ownership.

Dog owners can also enter their dogs in contests such as Fastest Eater, Fastest Runner and Fancy Dress.

Happy Ever After

Remember the adoption drive that was held on the 21st of October? We had ‘The Famous 5’ (puppies rescued from a breeding farm) – Murphy, Fifi, Lea, Scotty and Ally, and not forgetting ‘The Fantastic 2’ – Bingo and JJ! 

We received an overwhelming response, and about a hundred people came to join us at Doggie Style Café at NEX. The cafe was so crowded and filled with dog-loving people wanting to adopt the 7 dogs.

Adoption is the way to go! Thank you for the overwhelming response.

The volunteers have been very busy conducting house checks and interviews with potential adopters over the past few weeks after the adoption drive. Thankfully, all the dogs have been rehomed!

A dear friend, Francesca, carrying little Scotty

Scotty, one of the Famous 5, is very sick and therefore, the foster has decided to keep him. Poor Scotty is suffering from liver damage, possibly from malnutrition. He is a mere 4 months old. Had we not rescued him from the breeding farm, who knows what fate lay ahead for him.

Liver problem in dogs are occurring with ever increasing frequency. Usually, when the owner finds out that his/her dog has a liver problem, it is already too late. Fortunately for Scotty, it wasn’t too late. Liver damage can be cured if it is not at the last stages where the dog only has months or days to live.

It all started when Scotty started panting a lot and was constantly lethargic. He was also not behaving like a puppy should; he did not play like any other puppy would. Fiona noticed his bloated stomach and sparse fur. She brought Scotty to the vet for a check-up because she was worried that all these symptoms may be an indication of some disease. True enough, the X-ray showed that Scotty has an enlarged liver and because he is still very young and delicate, he may die. Everyone was so worried but thankfully, Scotty seems to be recovering and is getting stronger and healthier as the days go by.

A special thanks to Ivy, the owner of Doggie Style Café, for hosting this adoption drive and for supporting adoption. The adoption drive wouldn’t be such a success if not for her!
We would like to thank all our volunteers who helped with the initial rescue, conducting house checks etc and for helping out at the adoption drive. We are grateful to our fosters Lynette, Gena, Theresa, Jaswinder and Natalie for caring for the puppies. We are extremely pleased with the overwhelming response from dog lovers who all chose to adopt instead of buy.

But because young Scotty is very sick, we decided that the best person to adopt Scotty is his foster who has been taking good care of him and who knows him best. The Coffee Pups - All Happily Loved!

On 3rd September 2011, HOPE Dog Rescue held an adoption drive to find homes for The Coffee Pups - Cafe, Cocoa, Latte and Mocha. Their lives on the streets were finally over and they were ready to be rehomed into their forever homes.

A lot of preparation had to be done prior to the adoption drive; ranging from organizing the venue and time to delegating volunteer duties, it was a very hectic time for us! Of course, the only thought on our minds was that we hoped the dogs would be successfully adopted. After much consideration about the date that we would hold the adoption drive on, we decided that a Saturday afternoon would be best, as more people would be available to view the puppies! We also finalized the venue for the adoption drive to be at Doggiestyle Cafe (NEX Shopping mall), as it was a rather central area for people all around Singapore. Families doing their weekend shopping could also stop by - the larger the crowd, the higher the chances of a successful adoption drive! Saturday was also a convenient day for our working adults and students volunteers who could help out. 


After the date was established, we informed the owner of Doggiestyle Cafe, Ivy, that we would like to hold an adoption drive at her premises. Ivy kindly allowed us to host our adoption drive at her cafe and we were very grateful that she was willing to support our cause. Again, Doggiestyle Cafe was the most ideal place for having an adoption drive, because it is a place where pet owners and lovers hangout with their dogs. We also observed that the human traffic passing by the café was high as well, therefore we hoped that more passers-by would stop for a glimpse of The Coffee Pups.

Getting to know more about The Coffee Pups

On the day of the adoption drive, everyone including the puppies were so excited! Our volunteers arrived a tad earlier to prepare for the event. Upon their arrival, The Coffee Pups were very excited to be in a new environment, and they were sniffing other dogs, hoping to play with them. Our adoption drive officially started when a special announcement was made by Ivy, introducing The Coffee Pups, as well as MoMo, a little brindle puppy who was also looking for a home. All the pups attracted lots of attention with their cute and adoring expressions - many people wanted to pat and hug all of them! Soon, Doggiestyle Cafe was swamped with so many visitors that we had to move our adoption drive outdoors, which attracted an even larger crowd! Many people enquired about the pups, and our volunteers basically introduced the respective dogs that they were handling, as well as explain our adoption conditions and procedures.

The people who were genuinely interested in adopting the pups had their details recorded down and a short questionnaire was completed by them to decide on their suitability. Volunteers informed all potential adopters that a thorough screening had to be done, as well as a house check would have to be performed before confirmation of the adoption.


After the adoption drive, volunteers spent time running through all the adoption questionnaires and details. We filtered out the most suitable families who were willing to take a Coffee Pup home. Over the following weekend, our volunteers busied themselves with house-checks and decision making.


Eventually, all of the Coffee Pups, as well as little MoMo were successfully and happily adopted! Though all the preparations were painstaking, everything was all worthwhile as we saw our street pups finally land in loving families, who would shelter them from all the dangers that they would have continued facing should we have left them on the streets.

Finally, we would like to once again thank Ivy for hosting our adoption drive at her café. We would also want to thank all volunteers who sacrificed their weekend to help ensure that the adoption drive went smoothly. Most importantly, we would like to thank the families who have adopted the puppies. They have given The Coffee Pups a bright future filled with Hope!

"A friend of my mother's was telling us about these “Coffee pups” that were up for adoption at Hope Dog Rescue so we decided to check them out via email.


When I saw the picture of the four, the first one to catch my attention was Mocha, now named Bailey Bliss; and I instantly fell in love with her.

There are reasons why I would rather adopt a dog than to buy one.


Firstly, you'll save a life.


Shelters tend to euthanize animals when they run out of space and it is really a painful and tough decision to make. The number of euthanized animals could be reduced if more people adopted pets instead of buying them, especially if the decision was an impulsive one.


Secondly, you'll get a healthy pet.


Animal shelters are brimming with happy, healthy animals just waiting for someone to take them home. Most animal rescue organizations - especially Hope Dog Rescue, examine, treat and provide vaccinations and all that is necessary to animals when they are rescued.


Lastly, it will make you feel like you have done something extremely humane.


Pets have a way of putting a smile on your face even at your lowest moments, especially my Bailey girl. She's the most cheerful, loving and clumsy doggie I've ever met. She never fails to greet us excitedly when we come home or when she sees us first thing in the morning. She runs and dives at out feet, wagging her tail vigorously, gets up, jumps on you and gives you little kisses all over your face.


Caring for a companion animal can provide a sense of purpose and fulfilment and lessen feelings of loneliness and isolation. It has been a month since we adopted Bailey and this little princess is happy as a lark. She has learnt several commands such as 'come', 'sit', 'paw' and 'down'.

Coffee Pups For Dog Addicts

Adoption Drive

Feel like a cuppa? You're in luck! We've got Café, Latte and Cocoa. Mocha has found a family who is addicted to her and now her siblings need families of their own too.

Come on down to Doggie Style Café this Saturday (Sept 3), 3pm to 5pm and have a cuppa - you can sit and sip real coffee at the café while you meet our 3 gorgeous pups who are available for adoption. If you would like to just come by and say Hi to the pups or our volunteers, please do come!

The puppies are due for their sterilizations soon and if you would like to help with that cost, please let us know. It would be greatly appreciated.

At a tender age of 5 months, The Coffee Pups  have lived their lives in a forested area with no food, water or shelter, and having to fend for themselves and look out for each other. Not a life for 5 month old pups, but they survived; despite two going missing and were found by our volunteers who sacrificed their Sunday to search for them.

This is what they called "Home"...

They have been plucked from danger and they truly deserve to enjoy their puppyhood, have a family to love them and behave like a. . . .  pet.
